Where Can I Invest Right Now In Nigeria To Get Good Returns

This is a very important question that will border the minds of many who want to generate an alternative income apart from their jobs or those who intend to start new businesses and are looking for areas of comparative advantage. You could be one who has money and is looking for areas in the economy to put such money in order to get an appreciable return on your invested fund.
Coming back to the big question, “where can I invest right now in Nigeria to get good returns?” I kind of like the analysis done by Nelly Nyagah of the frontier Market Network, her analysis of the top five growth sector in Nigeria could give you a clue of the key sectors of the economy where the money is really being made right now. As her report simply stated, the areas of trade, agriculture, infrastructural development, manufacturing and, oil and gas are the investment areas really pulling up the soaks in terms of financial returns.
These sectors are currently attracting interest from investors, both local and international with some investors investing directly while others are using available economic instrument like the stock market, bonds, etc. to ply their trade. the local investors includes business seekers on the street who using their little income to also be part squabble for relevance in the economy. Before analysing how to participate in these business areas, let us look at Nelly's sectorial analysis:
Trade and Import
Given the expansion of the consumer class, we project that consumption could more than triple, rising to almost $1.4-trillion a year in 2030, an annual increase of about 8%. This would make trade the largest sector of the economy and provide a particularly good opportunity for makers of packaged foods and fast-moving consumer items such as paper goods, categories that could grow by more than 10 percent a year.
Agriculture and Farming
Improvements on several fronts could help raise both the volume and the value of Nigeria’s agricultural production in the next 15 years. The economic value of agriculture, already the largest sector of the economy, at 22% of GDP, could more than double, from $112 billion a year in 2013 to $263 billion by 2030
Infrastructure and Construction
On average, the value of a nation’s core infrastructure—roads, railways, ports, airports, and the electrical system—represents about 68 % of GDP, but in Nigeria it is only about 39%. Between core infrastructure and real estate, total infrastructure investments in Nigeria could reach $1.5-trillion from 2014 to 2030. This would make building infrastructure not only a major contributor to GDP but also an enabler of growth across the economy.
Manufacturing and Packaging
Though growing rapidly, manufacturing in Nigeria contributed just $35-billion to the economy in 2013, or about 7% of GDP. If Nigeria could match the performance of nations such as Malaysia and Thailand when their manufacturing sectors were expanding rapidly, output could reach $144-billion a year in 2030.
Oil and Gas
While the oil-and-gas sector is expected to grow by 2.3% a year at best, its success is still vital to Nigeria’s economy. With the right reforms, we estimate that liquids production could increase from an estimated 2.35 million barrels a day, on average, in 2013 to a new high of 3.13 million by 2030. Oil and gas would then contribute $108-billion annually to the economy, compared with $73-billion in 2013. However, this estimate of potential output assumes renewed investment to reverse the production declines of recent years.
Where to Pull the Strings
Yes you have seen the analysis of key performing areas of the economy and their potential projected into the future which starts today. Now how can these projections make you rich or influence your pocket is another question. Except the economic jargons reflects in your ability to to use them as investment tolls they make no meaning.
It is always better to use examples you can relate with. Aliko Dangote became African richest man by starting on the trade aspect of the economy, importing into this country commodities such as sugar, flour, cement, milk, including packaging items and many other items too numerous to mention.
After sojourning in the trading area for some time, he then downloaded some of his commodity companies into the stock exchange. Companies like Dangote sugar, Dangote flour and Dangote cement saw themselves in the stock market and some of these company shares were later traded off afterward by Dangote who now became not just a business man, but a heavy investor.  Hitting the stock market gave him the opportunity to be captured on the Forbes list of the world richest persons.
He then ventured into manufacturing, agriculture and raw material development just to support his industry and he is a major player in the upstream oil and gas sector with associations in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry as well.
Right now, even the break light of his bank account is difficult to see anymore. But remember, he started from importation, trade and logistics, something that was easier for him to do then or start out with. Now Dangote is virtually in all the areas of growth and as the economy grows he grows with it.
Now the Nigeria economy lay bear for all to see and the opportunity opens for potential investors and business seekers to take position. Where do you want to start from and how do you want to end. There is no ending to those who start with knowledge. Those who do not start at all, never gets anywhere and those who start and fail always get the reward of experience.

PayPal Opens to Nigerians Rushes for the Millions other Payment Companies have been Enjoying

Online money transfers serve as an electronic alternatives to paying with traditional paper methods, such as checks and money orders. For many years PayPal and some other payment solution companies have refuse Nigerians to have access to their platform, hence making purchases online from some certain site very difficult and sometime impossible. Even when other payment company finally gave in and started allowing Nigerians after seeing the huge potential the country has in terms cash transaction and international trade PayPal still did not bulge.
The recent debasing of the Nigerian economy totally change the game plan of PayPal after discovering the huge money they have being loosing to MasterCard, Visa and other local payment solution in the country. Who know want better thing joo.
Today PayPal has had to have a rethink According a comprehensive reports released by Reuters in London, PayPal is an international e-commerce business that allows payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet is entering 10 new countries this week, including Nigeria, providing online payment alternatives for consumers via mobile phones or PCs in markets often blighted by financial fraud.
Rupert Keeley, the executive in charge of the EMEA region of PayPal, the payments unit of eBay Inc, said in an interview on Monday the expansion would bring the number of countries it serves to 203.
Starting on Tuesday, consumers in Nigeria, which has 60 million users and has Africa's largest population, along with nine other markets in sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America will be able to make payments through PayPal.
"PayPal has been going through a period of reinvention, refreshing many of its services to make them easier to use on mobile (phones), allowing us to expand into fast-developing markets," Keeley said.
Once the services go live, customers in the 10 countries with access to the Web and a bank card authorized for Internet transactions will be able to register for a PayPal account and make payments to millions of sites worldwide.
Initially, PayPal is only offering "send money" services for consumers to pay for goods and services at PayPal-enabled merchant sites while safeguarding their financial details. This is free to consumers and covered by fees it charges merchants.
"We think we can give our sellers selling into this market a great deal of reassurance," said Keeley, a former regional banking executive with Standard Chartered Plc and senior executive with payment card company Visa Inc.
PayPal does not yet cover peer-to-peer transactions, which allow consumers to send money to other consumers. It has not yet enabled local merchants in the new markets to receive payments, nor is it offering other forms of banking services, he said.
A 2013 survey of 200 UK ecommerce sites by Visa's CyberSource unit estimated that 1.26 percent of online orders are fraudulent and that 85 percent of merchants expected fraud to increase or remain static last year.
CyberSource also estimated that suspicion of fraudulent transactions result in 8.2 percent of online orders in Latin America being rejected by merchants, compared with 5.5 percent in Europe and 2.7 percent in the United States and Canada.
Such fraud can include ID theft, social engineering, phishing and automated harvesting of customer financial data via botnets, or networks of computers controlled by hackers.
A total of 80 million Internet users stand to gain access to PayPal global services this week, including those in five European markets - Belarus, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco and Montenegro, four in the African nations of Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Zimbabwe, as well as Paraguay. Internet usage figures are based on research by Euromonitor International.
PayPal counts 148 million active accounts worldwide.
Last week, MasterCard Inc, the world's second-largest debit and credit card company, and a PayPal rival in payment processing, said it was working with the Nigerian government on a pilot to overlay payment technology on a new national identity card.
PayPal has operated in 190 markets since 2007 and added three countries - Egypt, Georgia and Serbia last year. Roughly a quarter of the $52 billion in payment volumes PayPal reported in the first quarter of 2014 were for cross-border transactions. PayPal reported $1.8 billion in revenue during the period. How to solve Online Payment Problems on Aliexpress Using Nigerian Cards

There are times when some folks complain to me how they tried to purchase items on Aliexpress and were unable to make payment for it. Off course that is a failed transaction meaning that they could not buy what they wanted from the online shopping site. Others tried making payment using payment card like UBA Africard and all the get is an error report saying “Sorry, your payment was not successful, no money has been deducted or secured check failed”. Even when they have been using the same card to shop on Aliexpress previously most of these shoppers are told that their bank has declined their payment.
Apart from the UBA online payment cards, card from other banks like MasterCard from GTBank, Visa card from Diamond Bank or Access Bank Visa credit card that can be used for online purchase on Aliexpress, Nigerian users seems to share similar experience recently. This article by Hope Eno, addresses all the issues that people may have had recently using their payment cards on shopping site, aside from the ones he had earlier discussed about in his book on “Online Shopping and Import Business” on www.investmentlight.com/onlineshopping
It is important to know that when payment rejection occurs during online shopping, it is most unlikely that it is the online store that orchestrated the rejection of your payment. The ball will always stop at the table of your bank or the card issuer. They are the ones you can contact to know why or the reason behind the decline in transaction proceedings for your online shopping or import. Such general reasons for card rejections may include:
Insufficient Funds in Your Card Account
The africard UBA visa prepaid card is a VISA CARD issued by visa international; an international payment company just likes MasterCard. Most the times when online shops like Aliexpress rejects transactions on this card, it may be due to cash balance issues in your account. Noticeably, the UBA africard has high efficiency, but also charges high on commission and this can defeat your personal calculation when doing purchase with respect to the balance in the account attached your card. There may not be enough money to finalise your intended transactions if you did not consider the charges.
Note that you may have enough money for the items you intend to purchase but not enough for the bank charges, hence your transaction may fail at that point. To solve the issue simply fund your card with more cash and try the money transfer transaction again.  Always make sure you have more than enough funds for the purchase you intend to make before shopping
Unavailable Of Enough Funds to Process the Transaction
If you recently deposited funds or payment to your credit card, debit or prepaid card, that money may not have been credited on your card or applied to your account.  There could have been a repeated deductions or a hold on your account by a supplier or site you have previously made transactions with thereby reducing your available balance. Always check the balance on your account or card account to avoid transaction failure.
Transaction Limits
As a card holder make sure payment for your order does not exceed your credit limit or transaction sealing. Every country has an online transaction payment limits on card. Find out how much that is and don’t exceed it. That of Nigeria used to be ten thousand dollars before it was upgraded to a million dollars.
Cards without Complete Registration Details
Some prepaid cards and gift cards may not be accepted because they may be temporary card without complete personal information. Some these cards may be specially issued payment card that may not be popular like MasterCard or visa card. In such cases you may have to register the card online by entering your name and mailing address using stipulated, but usually listed details on the back of the card or on the card package or sent differently to you. This will enable you use the card online to shop after completing the details.
Locally Issued Card and Unsupported Cards
Some cards may not be supported electronically by the shopping site you are dealing with depending on the card issuer.  Also some card issuer or bank may disallow internet transactions on their cards, hence cannot be used for international transfer on website. Some card may not come with internet enabled transaction other may not have features for international transactions.
There are card issued for domestic use only like the Verve card without visa card or MasterCard logo, this card cannot be used for international transactions, because they are not connected to the international payment network and can only be used locally.  Most Nigerian banks offer cards that can be used locally and the ones that access anywhere in the world.  Always find out the difference when obtaining your card.
Sometimes banks can temporarily disable internet transactions on payment card may be due to system maintenance or when they are trying to close in on a frauds issue.
Busy Network, Down Connection and Maintenance Issues
Online payment is a technologically driven system powered by electronics signals, hence we cannot rule out system failures sometimes which may hinder transaction. Your payment transaction may be rejected when your bank or the payment processing company's network may be experiencing technical difficulties or be down for maintenance.
You may also get a decline in your payment transaction when there is heavy transaction traffic or large volume of transactions through the system during holidays or events, or when the payment processing company cannot reach your bank to approve a transaction or when your bank must need your approval for certain transaction they are not sure of. To solve this you may just try again later when the system resumes or contact your card issuer or bank to resolve the failed transaction.
Fraud Issues and Suspicion
All banks have aggressive fraud detection measures and may be blocking your transaction for one reason or the other. Some banks and card issuers may likely block transaction that they feels suspicious of or when they suspect illegal activity on your card. Most time when a payment processing company declines a transaction on behalf of your bank or card issuer as result of security issues it conceals the reason for such rejections.
To solve this authorization and fraud prevention systems issues, you can contact your bank and request for a removal of such a blockage. You are advised not to attack your bank for such an action as it done for your good and these systems structures for fraud check both internally and externally.
Verification Code for Online Payment
There are various codes which payment merchant or payment companies used to strengthen the loopholes or gaps that fraudsters may want to exploit to commit fraud on payment cards. Although these codes help secure the funds of card users, they can also work against the card owner if he or she is not conversant with the usage of the codes. One such is the use of incorrect card security code which can cause payment failure. Card security code is the short numeric code on the back of your credit card.
Sometimes a payment site may show an error sign “Cannot pay, Try MasterCard SecureCode or Verified by Visa”. What this means is that your card issuer or bank, payment company or even the shopping site may require that you use "Verified by Visa" or "MasterCard Secure Code" to complete an online transaction. It is an advance form of security check on transactions so to say.
The 3-D security code is a code that authorizes your credit card issuer to activate your credit card for any online payment you are doing using the card on a website. As stated above the 3-D Security Code for Visa is called Verified by Visa (VBV) and that of Master Card is called MasterCard Secure Code.
I think recently Aliexpress may not have allowed some debit cards in Nigeria because they do not have the 3D Secure Code, most international dollar cards do have this code. The Nigerian government recently announced that all card issued by banks in the country must comply with international best practice and have this code in all payment card so that Nigeria payment card can be seen as secured to makes online transaction internationally. So the secured code will no longer be an issue very soon for Nigerian shopping online.   Details from www.investmentlight.com/onlineshopping
Some International Payment Cards You Could Use
MasterCard, Visa are international payment card issuing companies working in alliance with local bank and local card issuing companies to make payment transaction both local and international flawless. There are other international payment transaction companies though not popular in Nigeria, but do have card which is also valid for online transactions.
GTB Naira MasterCard and other conventional Visa cards are valid payment cards online and internationally. It is worthy of note that it is good to always have more than one card for online payment, so if one payment card failed another might work for the same purpose.  Access Bank Visa Credit Card has minimal charges, oh sorry, I have run out of space.
